Arie Luyendyk, Jr. was a contestant on the 8th season of The Bachelorette.

He was the runner-up.

On September 7, 2017 during the broadcast of Good Morning America, Luyendyk announced as the Bachelor for the 22nd season of The Bachelor.

The Bachelorette[]

Arie was the runner-up on Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette. On Week 3, he received a rose on a one-on-one date with Maynard, his only one-on-one date of the season. On Week 6, Arie confessed he was in love with Emily. In the finale, after Maynard takes Jef to meet her daughter Ricki, including a date in the swimming pool, she is certain that Jef is the one for her. Not wanting to put Arie through a failed proposal, Maynard eliminates him rather than giving him a final date. Arie was confused and heatbroken, thinking he was certainly going to win Emily's heart.

We are proud to announce the next Bachelor will be....@ariejr!"

Personal life[]

During his season of The Bachelor he fell in love with two women; Becca Kufrin and Lauren Burnham. He ultimately chose to propose to Becca.

"Arie, since I first stepped out of the limo I was in awe of you and just how cool, calm and collected you were, when I was a bundle of nerves. But since our very first conversation you just put me at such ease and made me feel so comfortable. It just felt easy and it felt right and the first date, you allowed me that night to just open up to you and be vulnerable, but there was no judgement there, you just let me be me and I knew I was falling for you and I was falling so hard and so fast and it scared med because I didn't think that I could feel so deeply for somebody so early on, but you proved me wrong. You've made falling in love with you easy, you make being in love with you easy and I don't want to ever stop loving you, and I love you so, so much and I'm just ready to do this thing with you!" - Becca to Arie

"When I met you I was taken aback, you know, you are beautiful and elegant and... In that first conversation I knew that you were an incredible woman, and I needed to know more. And I think back on our dates, and I think back on meeting your family, and I think back on all the moments that we shared and the thing that stands out is that, we're a team, you know? And I am very lucky that you've been on this journey with me and through all of it you've given me so much confidence along the way. Because of that, my love for you is unmeasurable and... This morning I woke up, and I thought about you and I thought you and our kids together, I thought about us when we're old and I choose you today, but I choose you everyday from here on out. I love you so much! Becca, will you marry me?" - Arie proposing to Becca

A few weeks after filming wrapped, he decided to break off his engagement to pursue Lauren. Arie and Lauren got engaged at the After the Final Rose show.

"I've made some bad decisions but the best decision was running back to you. I can't imagine a life you. You have shown me a love that is patient, a love that is kind and I truly believe you are my soul mate. I'm ready to face this life with you and all that comes with it, good and bad. I love you so much and I wanted to do this in front of everyone because I wanna show you that I should have done this a long time ago. Lauren Elizabeth Burnham, will you marry me?" - Arie proposing to Lauren
