The 18th season of The Bachelorette premiered on October 19, 2021. The season features 28-year-old Michelle Young, a teacher.

She first appeared on the 25th season of The Bachelor, where she was rejected by Matt James.

She ultimately chose Nayte Olukoya and accepted his proposal.

Filming and development[]

Filming began at the end of July 2021, in Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa in Palm Springs. Filming will also be taking place in Minnesota, at the Marquette Hotel in Minneapolis. They will attempt to bring back the "normal" hometown dates for this season. The last three Bachelor Nation seasons were filmed inside the bio-secure bubble zone during the COVID-19 pandemic, as cast and crew could allow to go out once quarantine restrictions had lifted.

Casting and contestants[]

Katie Thurston and Michelle Young were announced as the next two bachelorettes at the After The Final Rose special of Matt James' season of The Bachelor.

On July 26, 2021, 35 possible men were announced on Facebook. The final cast, consisting of 30 men, was announced on September 27, 2021.

Michelle Young’s journey to find love begins! Thirty incredible men arrive, hoping to impress Michelle with their charm, wit and dashing good looks, but before the men can attempt to woo her, they’ll have to get through hosts and mentors Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams first. It may be night one, but the suitors quickly learn it’s going to take more than a good limo entrance to win this Bachelorette’s heart.

Michelle steps into the next phase of her journey with the 23 remaining men for a whirlwind week of firsts. On the season’s first group date, the guys get schooled by a trio of talented fifth graders, but when a pop quiz turns into a test of temperament, Michelle makes it clear she’s not here for class clowns. Afterward, one lucky man gets the first one-on-one and takes his relationship with Michelle to new heights where they enjoy a surprise musical performance by Caroline Jones. Then, with the help of WNBA stars Dearica Hamby and Diamond DeShields, the second group date gives the men a chance to prove if they’ve got what it takes to be a good teammate on – and off – the court. Later, with a rose ceremony looming, one suitor makes a bold decision that sends Michelle looking for answers. Will she discover the truth before handing out the final rose?

With her trust in the men shaken after last week, Michelle and her remaining suitors embark on a week full of dates set on rebuilding those bonds. First up, stars of the new movie sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” Glen Powell and Jay Ellis, push the guys out of their comfort zone and into the danger zone, but the G-forces won’t be the only thing making their heads spin. Later, one unsuspecting fella makes the most of his one-on-one time, baring it all in his attempt to woo Michelle. And a group date led by spoken-word poet Rudy Francisco has the men waxing poetic. At the end of the day though, it’s Michelle, who, moved by the vulnerability of her guys, steals the show with an emotional spoken-word poem of her own. Before the roses can be handed out, a level-headed guy shares with Michelle that the men in the house have always had her back, leading to a series of confrontations and a shocking conclusion that can’t be missed.

Michelle is putting her foot on the gas, moving forward in her journey to find love, starting off this week with an adrenaline-pumping joyride at the BMW Performance Center alongside one lucky guy. Later, the largest group of men this season assemble for a slumber party date of epic proportions hosted by WWE Superstars The Bella Twins. But while it’s all fun and games for the guys, their focus seems to be on anything but Michelle, leaving her feeling unseen in a way that feels all too familiar to her past and compels her to share her truth with the group. After an emotional evening, Michelle is ready to lift her spirits – literally – on a second one-on-one date that sees one jokester open up in an unexpected way and features a surprise performance by recording artist Andy Grammer. Just when the drama seems to have faded into the background, one man makes a bold move at the cocktail ceremony, turning the night on its head and forcing Michelle to make some tough decisions as she hands out her roses.

“The Bachelorette” is hitting the road! For the first time in almost two years, our leading lady and her men will leave their resort and this time they’ll head somewhere particularly special to Michelle—her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Being close to home has its perks and so this week, one lucky guy will get to pull back the curtain on the places and things that made her who she is today, while another will get to meet some of the people who did. The remaining men will attempt to score major points when they take on real Viking challenges to showcase their strength and bravery. It’s a week full of fun and games, but some men seem to have games of their own in mind. Will Michelle show the troublemakers the door?

With hometowns on the horizon, Michelle enlists the help of some incredibly tough critics to design and lead the dates this week– her own fifth grade students! The men will have to be on their best behavior to impress these smart and savvy pre-teens who want the best for their beloved teacher, but one man stands out with flying colors for his fort building skills and is hand-picked for the coveted one-on-one date. The kids’ instincts are sharp but, even with their help, Michelle still has to make her most difficult decisions as she chooses the men whose families she will meet. In fact, one of those decisions may change the course of one man’s life forever.
7	"Week 7:Hometowns"	November 30, 2021
It’s hometowns week! In a fun twist this season, Michelle’s final four men are bringing their families to her in Minneapolis, Minnesota! Designed to show off some of the guys’ own hometown stories, their dates are filled with skateboarding, apple-picking, a romantic prom and even a confession of falling in love. With so much at stake and so little time left, Michelle knows that tonight’s breakup will be the most difficult of the journey so far, and after seeing some red flags, she begins to wonder if all of her men are ready for love. Just in time, Michelle gets a special visit from two of her best friends, Bri and Serena P., who come to her emotional rescue, helping her navigate the ultimate question—did meeting their families change everything?

On this week’s fantasy suite dates, the remaining suitors will push their boundaries, test their limits, and open up in ways that surprise not only Michelle, but also themselves. After a trio of exciting and passionate dates, Michelle finds herself questioning—could she be in love with three men at once? Still pondering that question, she’ll head into the rose ceremony with only two roses and one heartbreaking decision to make.

Michelle’s journey as “The Bachelorette” is coming to a close.
